Notes
Maria went to Ituba Namalowe to continue teaching about the effects and prevention of alcohol and drug abuse. The VHT mr magala started the meeting with a word of prayer, then he thanked the members for their continuous turn up and love towards Kibo program in particular community health education. After Maria was invited to speak to the members. Maria welcomed everyone in the meeting and thanked all the participants for their love and time towards this program then she introduced the topic as effects of alcohol and drug abuse to individual, family, and community at large. Mariam shared the outcomes of alcohol saying, her brother lost his life, this came after him being addicted to only alcohol and drugs not eating Anything apart from alcohol. Still Agnes said that she divorced her husband because of alcoholism, every time the man was drunk, he could beat her, fight even the children, sell off everything in the house causing a lot of poverty in the family. Rebecca shared an experience about a man in this very village Ituba Namalowe who finished his education and earned a degree in clinical medicine, after he started using drugs and when time passed he could not even remember what he was trained to do. Now he’s one of the wasted man in this village yet the community was very excited to have a doctor but instead he became a loss to both his family and the community. Most of the members talked about the youth who are dropping out of schools as a result of drug abuse, resulting into early marriages, early pregnant, family conflict among others. Still more on the effect Maria shared the effects that alcohol can cause on ones organs, the more drugs you use the more you affect the kidney and the lungs. Still members shared how youths adopt habits of theft looking for quick money, rape, and many more effects. Maria together with the members discussed the different ways of preventing alcoholism in their community, sensitize the community about the dangers of drug abuse and alcoholism, encourage the youth to get involved in income generating activities so that they are not idol in the community , report to the police or to the local leaders any form of alcoholism. The meeting ended with a word from the chairperson who later gave us a closing prayer.
