Tom made a,visit to one of the villages recommended by Namutumba district for a new borehole. Tom went with the chairman of Mpumiro village because he knows the place and knows the chairman of budomero. On the way to Budomero, they passed Budunda trading center were there is the only borehole that both budunda and Budomero residents use. This borehole had a long line of jericans. When they arrived In Budomero, the chairman of the village was happy to see visitors and the chairman of Mpumiro Mr Aziz introduced Tom to the village leaders of Budomero. Tom introduced Kibo to the leaders and mentioned some of the programs in the organization. He also mentioned that Kibo has been sent to Budomero by the district of Namutumba. Tom asked about the village challenges as it related to sanitation and hygiene. The chairman was open to say the sanitation of the village is bad as well as not having clean water. He said the only borehole they go to is in Budunda and the residents of Budunda treat them as second in line when it comes to pumping water from the borehole. He said it can take someone 6 hours before getting water based on the long line of jericans and they also said it worse to them who come from Budunda because the borehole is not on their village so they don’t have rights to it. The village leaders took Tom to a swamp where they get water. They said the go mostly in the early morning hours when the water has settled and it’s cleaner because as the day goes by, the water starts to get mucky because of the many people who come to collect as well as animals. Tom mentioned that his going and Kibo’s going was not a guarantee that they are going to get water. It he said he will take the report back to the district and kibo leaders for final decision as there many other villages in need. Tom mentioned that if considered, he will call them next year for a meeting and then they will get to know how the process works. According to Tom’s observation, the village would greatly benefit from the kibo activities and programs starting with Clean water.
