Notes
Harriet and Jeska together with the Sub county Chief went to Igerera A village to give soucepans and soap to the community as well as to encourage the community to continue implementing and sustaining program activities on their own. They found when the participants had already gathered at the meeting place. Kibo staff together with the community leaders for the Healthy and safe kitchen program together with the Subcounty chief first walked through the homes of the participants to see what kibo had done in their village through partnering with the community. They walked through over 3o homes and all the homes had sanitation and hygiene facilities, fuel efficient stoves which they used to cook on food on daily basis, had firewood storages, had smeared their home facilities, had swept their homes and the Utensils were clean and well arranged compared to the past( before kibo started working in their community). This was so encouraging to see that the community had greatly improved and were using all the home facilities that KIbo encouraged them to put in place. Later own they settled down for the meeting, During the meeting the Chairperson for the Healthy and Safe kitchen program Mr. Wamulambi Matiya thanked kibo for the programs so far implemented in their village. He said that the program enabled them to earn a skill of building Stoves which they plan to sell to the neighboring communities to earn a some money. He added that kibo has United them through the healthy and safe kitchen program which encouraged them to work together, there are reduced cases of domestic violence because the stoves created conducive atmosphere that attracts men to cook with their wives in the kitchen other than spending time in the trading centers drinking alcohol. He added there is improved hygiene in the kitchen because the stoves use less firewood thus producing little ash that is easy to clean. He added that since the stoves use little firewood the women now have enough time to rest other than spending long hours in the forests looking for firewood. Then kibo staff (Harriet) thanked the community for being cooperative, hardworking that has enabled the program to be successful. She also applauded the men for actively participating in the program and supporting their wives which has contributed to the program success. She told them that because of their hard, team work kibo decided to give each member a bar of soap and Two big community Saucepans that they can use together. She advised them to either rent them out to the neighboring communities and the money is brought back to the group. She also encouraged them to think of what else they can add as a group on the saucepans that kibo has given them . When the participants show these surprise gifts they were very excited, thankful to kibo and promised to continue working together. They also said that the saucepans they are going to use them as a start to form a burial catering group so that they will be hired to cook food at funeral to generate money for their community. The subcounty chief Mr. Kapalaga on behalf of Namutumba district thanked kibo for the work done in the community. He also encouraged the participants to maintain and sustain what kibo has done in their village. He also told them that what kibo has done is the village is meant to be done by the government but because of the limited resources the government has been un able.He also encouraged the community to start saving , register them selves to the sub county. He asked them to visit the sub county and apply for Government funds that is being given to organized communities like them because the government supports organized groups other than individuals. The community were very great full, promised to meet , plan and discuss how to move on and reach the government also to benefit from such funds. They also promised to continue participating in any development programs brought to their village either by NGOs or Government.
