Notes
Diana went to Bulyowa A to teach poultry lessons, it was mainly on the laying stations and marking of eggs. Diana got when the community was ready for the lesson. The Secretary Bwiire opened with the word of prayer and thanked everyone for keeping time. He told them not to give up, because everyone can testify that community empowerment has really transformed their families. Men no longer sleep on the roads because of over drinking, this is because they go early to their homes to meet their beloved families. They no longer beat their wives. Diana was happy to hear such a testimonies from the community. “Such testimonies are the best rewards we receive as community empowerment”. Diana encouraged the community to be united and live in love, since they are going for the festive season. She told them that they should not be extravagant since January is coming and children are going back to school. She told them that they should put some money aside to cater for tuition for their children. She told them that it is embarrassing to send children to school without tuition and yet they had two whole years to plan for their children. Diana also told the men and women not drink themselves silly on the festive season and fight before the children. They should emulate love, the men who married two wives should dine together with the entire family to avoid causing chaos from the two women, as in who got the largest share. The community attentively listened as Diana talked to them heart to heart. Diana told them that it is upon them to choose what is wise for them. Diana went ahead to introduce the lesson of poultry. She asked them what is chicken to them, they laughed, as Wako raised his hand and said that it is a bird that flies and is reared for peopled to eat. Sabasi, said it is a bird that is reared for selling. Diana told them that everyone is right. She told them in Africa, a chicken is the bird that is reared, and it is the only one can be slaughtered for the in-laws when they make a visit to their fellow in-laws. The community laughed and they truly agreed that it is the only important bird that is slaughtered for the in-laws. Diana asked them how they keep the eggs the hen lays, Harriet said that her hen loves being on top of the tree, Diana responded saying that when the hen lays on top of the tree, the eggs can end up falling and breaking. Diana asked in Lusoga if they know a ‘bisakiriri’, which is well tied inform of a basket and that is where a hen can comfortably lay its eggs without losing or breaking them. Mutes I said she knows it and it is where hens lay their eggs. Diana told them that they should also mark the eggs the hen lays, they should use a pencil to mark them. This is because a pencil does not have any chemical that will spoil the egg. As Diana went on with the poultry lesson, Bwire requested Diana to give them sometime because they had a meeting as the Mvule savings. Diana knew this was about the savings of the festive season. Diana said that she is okey with it. Diana thanked them for their time and told them to main peace. She wished them a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Bwiire the secretary thanked Diana for the educative messages she gave unto them. He said that they as Bulyowa A will be waiting for the lessons come January 2022. He wished Kibo a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
