Notes
David and Steven went to nawampiti to have a meeting together with the water and sanitation committee members from the two sections 1 and 2 which was aimed at how they could help those in nawampiti 2 to get the borehole contributions they were supposed raise. They started the meeting by thanking those from nawampiti 1 for having raised the 200000 shillings they were supposed to get as their contribution towards their borehole account. The main points they were supposed to emphasise mostly on were that since it was the same village ,they wanted to copy the same procedures those in nawampiti 1 used to get their money for their borehole account.David called upon mr Jacob the treasurer from nawampiti 1 during the course of the meeting to guide them on which ways were used to get their contributions. He said that because it was a planting season they visited people’s homes in the evenings during when they were out of their gardens.Unlike those in nawampiti 2 who used to wait for people at the well yet others would send those who had finished paying their contributions. The second procedure was to include all the age brackets on the committee and also dividing the responsibilities amongst all the age brackets. Mr kagawa Wilson who is the chairman of the borehole appreciated Kibo for re uniting the entire village ,and said that him and the treasurer mr mwanja Wilson will start using those procedures mentioned above as those in Nawampiti 2 had a challenge of topping up with the remaining balance of the 70000 thousand shillings to get the 200000 shillings. After all that, the next point discussed was why the entire village had failed to work and improve on their remaining home hygiene facilities. The members from 1 and 2 said in both sections the hygiene and sanitation improvement was the greatest challenge. Therefore they requested Kibo to encourage and guide them on how they would handle that weakness. Kibo staff advised them on the following . They should involve the youth on the sanitation committee and on that note they had to elect and include the two posts of mobilizers from the different parts of the village who were youth .They did so because they wanted to reach out to everyone during the course of encouraging the community about hygiene improvements. They elected those youths because the challenge was in most homes of those youths who had just got married and those sharing the same shower areas and toilets together with their parents. Mr simon wakibi and Mohamed wagota were elected and included to the water and sanitation committee as the youth representatives. The meeting was concluded when the village and the committee members had requested Kibo staff for a grace period of two weeks before every one works on their sanitation and hygiene facilities. In general the hygiene and sanitation status of the entire village is not yet meeting the required hygiene set standards. David and Steven left the village with an assignment where by, the committee members were supposed to call for an urgent meeting to bring everyone on board as far as the period of the two weeks which were given to the entire village to finish up with the construction and building of their hygiene and sanitation facilities.
