Ws Notes
David and Steven went to nawampiti to continue teaching and encouraging the members in nawampiti 1 about hygiene improvement and facility maintenance. They moved along with the chairman of the borehole mr kagawa Wilson and the V h t mr Jacob in about forty homes encouraging residents to work and improve on their facilities.David and Steven as they were moving home to home while encouraging about facility maintenance-and standardisation ,their first target was mainly on two homes. for example mr waiswa Emanuel and Baleka Wilsons homes, which were strongly affected by strong winds which destroyed people’s latrines. They found when mr waiswa Emma and Baleka Wilson had worked on the walls of their toilets which were torn apart. Kibo staff together with the chairman of the borehole mr kagawa Wilson and the Vht mr Jacob thanked them so much and encouraged them to also keep working and improving on even their other home hygiene facilities to meet the required sanitation standards. The owners of those two affected homes requested for the grace period of two weeks before they get to finish working on the rest of their facilities. From there they continued moving home to home encouraging the other members to improve on some of their facilities which were not up to standard. Out of the 38 homes they moved to,they found when the greatest challenge was that the most homes did not have hand washing facilities and good shower areas. The residents said that it was so because their facilities were affected by the heavy winds and strong rains.David and Steven advised them on how they would keep their facilities stronger by applying some 3 kilograms of cement on the walls of their shower areas so that no more rains would penetrate inside the walls of their shower facilities. Also on the side of the hand washing facilities not being in their homes ,David kept on encouraging them to use ash in their toilets because it also helps to kill some germs not forgetting washing their hands after visiting their toilet. When they finished their home to home movements they sat together with the v. h t Jacob, kagawa the chairman of the borehole and drew plans for the other section of the village where they did not reach that day . They said that they will be doing the same encouragement and teaching of home to home the same way as they did in nawampiti 1 so that everyone would be brought up to speed as far as hygiene and sanitation improvements are concerned. In general the hygiene and sanitation status of the entire nawampiti village wasn’t meeting the required hygiene standards. The residents Said that they were not doing great as far as hygiene improvements are concerned,as they were spending much of their time and emphasis in the gardens since it was a weeding season for the late planters as well as harvesting season for early planters. However the residents Said that they will start-concentrating also on their home improvement repairing facilities for those that broke down and building for those that dont have any.
