Ws Notes
David along with zacharia and Steven went to nawampiti to continue following up on the sanitation facilities. Their much emphasis was mainly on facility maintenance and standardization. They focused much on latrine and shower area constructions because they were the most affected facilities in the different homes by the heavy rains .Therefore when David,Zacharia and Steven reached the village, they first had a small meeting along with the water and sanitation committee members because they had previously left them with an assignment that they were supposed to have a general sanitation and borehole village meeting. The meeting was aimed at strategizing how best they would work to let everyone in the village to improve on their sanitation and hygiene as well as pay money for the borehole account. They started their small meeting by giving a report from the previous assignment that was given to the committee members by David and Steven.Jacob the VHT was elected by the rest of the committee members to read out their way forward from the previous meeting. They said that those who had not effected their borehole contributions, when they happen to take their jerry cans to the borehole mr kagawa the caretaker should confiscate them and that he should always lock up the borehole only opening for those who will have paid. Also they said that, the committee members should move home to home twice a week more especially for those homes which were affected by the heavy rains and winds to check on their progress on sanitation and hygiene. The committee continued and said that they will first encourage home to home in nawampiti 1 where there was the greater number of the residents who were affected by the heavy rains. They reported also that the members of nawampiti 1 had finished collecting the 200000 shillings which they were supposed to pay as their borehole contributions. Kibo staff thanked them for that success but still continued encouraging them to improve even on their sanitation status. Those from nawampiti 2 also reported about how they were doing as far as their borehole contributions was concerned . They went ahead and said that, because they locked up the borehole they were able to get 170000 shillings with a balance of 30000 thousand shillings Kibo staff thanked them for that great effort and also advised them to work hard with in the graceful period of two weeks time as they had requested from the Kibo staff. After the meeting they decided to go home to home assessing the sanitation progress. However they moved in about four homes only because of the heavy rains which were coming.Out of the four homes they moved to,one of them was mr mwanja's the vice chairman of the borehole who had dug his pit latrine about 26 feet. The second home was for mr kagawa who also had all the necessary sanitation facilities in place the last home was for mis Zeridha Bakulu John,s home who had constructed the best dish-rack around the entire village .David and Zaharia thanked zeridha bakulu for having constructed the best dish-rack though her husband had abandoned her ,and went to namutumba town in another woman’s home. They requested the committee members to copy the way how zeridha bakulu standardized her dish rack and hand washing facility. Before they left for the fourth home ,the heavy rains started and because the roads are bad, they had to leave. In general the hygiene status of the entire village has started improving steadily and according to David's assessment he hopes that by the end of this month everyone will have met the required set hygiene standards ,because there is less to be done in their gardens than before.
