- Health lesson 2: Diet
- Notes
- Ida and Danny Cagnet went to Nabikenge and taught about Nutrition (Diet).Margaret opened with a prayer and Nabirye Ruth sang a song to remind the community of the previous lesson. Ida, Danny and the community started discussing about Nutrition. Ida asked why should people have a balanced diet?
Ssegonga answered that to help people be healthy and have healthy children,Margaret junior said that to show a better way to use the foods that they have.
Ida showed the community the house that was near the meeting place and asked what was used to build it, they named as follows: bricks, sheets, cement , timber, windows, doors, nails etc. The chairman asked the community to pay attention to what was being taught because they have a tendency of selling all the food after harvest and face hunger few weeks just after harvest. Ida continued by saying our bodies are like a house. The food we eat is helping us build up our bodies. She went ahead and asked them to compare how building our bodies is like building a house.
Bricks are like GO (main food) you need a large amount of them. In order to use bricks well, you must have mud or cement to join them together.
The mud that holds the bricks is like GROW sauce. The glass, sheets, nails and rest are like vegetables and fruits or GLOW. She added that Just as a good builder needs different materials so does our body.
All the three types of food as mentioned earlier are very important to eat from every day, because each type of food has its work.
Margaret senior stood and begged the community to save some food for home consumption. Some members suggested that they should start collecting food as a group and keep their community store to avoid future food problems. Waiswa asked the community to save that motion for next week.
One of the VHTs Nabirye urged the pregnant and those breastfeeding to eat well because it is very important. She added that the baby is getting food from the body, also one must have enough grow food to help the baby grow.if one doesnt have enough grow food then the baby will have difficulty growing.
Ida concluded by encouraging everyone to eat one of the three types of food to have energy, to grow properly and to have protection against sickness and infection.
Danny thanked the community for hosting the students and prayed to close the meeting.
