- Notes
- Harriet found some participants waiting at the meeting place. She reviewed with them the previous lesson .participants said the reason why sometimes men don’t help their wives to cook food because of too much smoke in the kitchen. One man called Bateriegha told Harriet that some women are very sturbon in a way that when their husbands help them they end up undermining them and even start commanding their husbands to do things which annoy the men and forces them to stop helping.
Harriet encouraged the women to be respectful to their husbands and when ever they help them they should appreciate them so that they can fill motivated.
Another man “Mpata” said that some women don’t sweep their kitchens which discourage them to work in a dirty kitchen to help their wives cook. Harriet posed it back to the community to suggest possible solutions for that. The community said that the women should always try to clean their kitchen so that their husband can help them to do some domestic work and also to enjoy the food from a clean kitchen.
During the meeting one woman also rose a concern that one time her child got burnt as a result of open flames and her husband did not sympathize with her instead he beat her up and even never gave her financial support as she was nursing the child in the hospital.
The community encouraged the men as well as the community to always be responsible and work together to overcome a specific community or family challenge more especially when it comes to children.
They added that women are very good parents who will always wish their children to be happy and no one can intentionally burn her child.
Harriet later switched the meeting to choose their leaders who will guide them/ coordinate the stove. most people did not welcome the idea reason being most people were electing members of the Mvule leadership committee and they wanted this time to elect new leaders.
They also said that since most people who were not part of the Mvule program were not in the meeting, choosing the leaders for the stove program should be postponed to the next meeting when the number of participants is more so that they can balance leadership.
Harriet reminded them that they should mobilise even people who were not part of the Mvule program if they are to benefit out of the stove program because this program is for every one not for only Mvule members in the village.
