- Notes
- Harriet, Jeska ,Tape , Nate and Falon found when the participants had already collected some dirt and were busy cutting grass that would be used for building the first demonstration stove.
The group had collected termite dirt (12) basins per stove and had planned for two demonstration stoves. This dirt was not enough because each stove needed 14 basins of grass. Harriet thanked them for being active members because they had already cut one sack and a half of grass.
Kibo staff joined the group to collect more dirt for building the two planned stoves. Kibo staff mixed the dirt and grass at a ratio of 2:1 as they explained to the community. They later added water and started stamping the dirt. The community did not wait for Kibo staff to stamp the dirt as they watched since they were very much interested in the stove program more so learning how to build stoves, they joined in. It was very exciting for the community to participate in stamping the dirt because they did the work while singing and dancing songs of joy and unity. All the men who were at the meeting joined and stamped the dirt together with the women.
Kibo staff demonstrated to them how to measure banana stems that are used in building the stoves to create the five holes on each stove. They encouraged them to always use big banana trees that will create a big hole for firewood and also to give room for roasting maize. Kibo staff built two demonstration stoves as they explained the whole process. The community was very excited when they saw a complete stove and thanked Kibo for having chosen to work in their village.
At the end they had a short meeting and they, democratically chose two potential candidates to get the next two stoves in the next meeting.
