Enock and Martin organised and mobilised the residents to come for a general meeting. The general meeting was aimed at setting up the date for the accomplishment of all the facilities like latrines, shower areas, dish racks, kitchen area, rubbish pits, clean compounds, teaching the residents the use of ash in the latrine, encouraging the members about the importance of sanitation and hygiene. The meeting was chaired by the chief from the sub-county and the chairman LC1. We had an opening prayer from one of the residents. When the meeting started, the chairman LC1 was first to speak. He welcomed everyone, appreciated the great work kibo is doing in his village. He also testified in front of all the residents and sub-county leaders giving a back ground about the poor state his village was going through and practicing open defection and only very few people had proper latrines. He continued and said, at the moment many people have constructed good latrines hence increasing the percentage levels. He committed himself to continue walking around with the kibo staff from water sanitation and hygiene to reach the 100% latrine coverage and other facilities. After the speech from the chairman, the sub-health inspector Naigaga Deborah was invited to give some remarks and also encourage the residents to improve on their sanitation and hygiene. When time came for the Kibo staff, Enock and Martin stood up to talk about the poor state they found the village before triggering till date. During the meeting they also spoke about what challenges they face while digging latrines and other facilities. They asked questions why some people up to now don’t have latrines, most people answered they are just lazy, busy with their gardens work and more. We spoke about the core values of proper sanitation in homes, encouraged all the residents to construct good standard structures and facilities, use good construction materials, use ash, wash hands after visiting the toilet and before eating, we also talked about maintenance of all the facilities in those homes which have already completed the construction. After we asked the residents to decide the date of accomplishment of the program, they all agreed to one month. The residents also agreed to pass this information to the residents who didn’t attend the meeting to also know what was talked about. The residents appreciated all the time spent with them, teaching, evaluating and sensitising them about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
