Look Up
Alex , Health assistant and the community development officer were in Nawandyo B for a general community meeting discussing about their borehole roles and responsibilities and training of the water user committee. Alex together with the sub county officials first inspected the new borehole platform and found it had dried very well and ready to start constructing the new borehole fence. They removed the banana leaves that were used to cover the platform 10 days ago. While in the meeting, the community development officer, Enock from Nabweyo sub-county told the community members that everyone in the community should have equal responsibility towards the borehole. He told them that they shouldn’t have this notion of thinking that the borehole belongs to Kibo group or the government and thinking Kibo group will be taking care of the borehole when they start using it. He also reminded them to have an effective and active water user committee at all times. The sub county officials appreciated Kibo group for the first borehole that has been given in the sub county and requested for more support since there are more villages in the sub county that are water stressed and moving long distances to get clean water. The sub county health assistant encouraged the village members to maintain a safe water chain, meaning that the clean water that is got from the clean borehole should end up in their clean homes and using clean Jerrycans to fetch water from the borehole. He appreciated Kibo group for working very hard to help Nawandyo village and ensuing that Nawandyo A and B is open defecation free. Nawandyo village was announced as the cleanest village in the sub county and this was possible because of Kibo’s intervening to help. This village was in a bad state three years ago but a lot has changed positively including the village working together through the groups they form like the Mvule groups and the stoves groups. Alex will go back to guide the community members as they build a standard borehole fence and continue with the training of the water user committee and the community roles and responsibilities.
