Notes
Enock, went to this village to continue mobilizing the community members in the section which we didn’t go to during the previous visit. They also checked on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, rubbish pits, emphasizing the residents to use as and maintain the facilities by smearing the structures as well as construction of good standard facilities. As they walked around, they met some residents who are constructing new latrines, digging new latrine pits taught some people the importance of using Ash in latrines as they made a demonstration in one of the homes which had a latrine with many houseflies. As he was teaching them, hold asked the lady to bring ash and a small broom. During he demonstration of using ash, the residents saw how flies ran out so quickly as they sprinkled ash inside the hole of the latrine. The people were so amused with what they saw and happy that they had the solution but never used it before. They vowed to always use it in latrines and learnt that flies carry germs from latrines to their food causing a lot of diseases and high expenditure on medication. After walking around, I had a meeting with all the new community local leaders say LC1, LC2 and LC3 as well as VHTs. This village has been divided up six times and right now they have six LCs. They all come for the short meeting we had. In the meeting we met to talk about how effective can we mobilize a good number of residents to come for the general meeting. We also spoke about unity and working together to transform this village and improve the sanitation levels. The leaders agreed to team up and start working together as they mobilize their fellow residents to come for the general meeting, encouraging there community members to improve on the sanitation levels of their village.
