Notes
This visit was intended to have a special training with the water user committee after the borehole commissioning which was done on 10/07/2018. The water user committee needs to be well equipped with all the knowledge to ensure proper borehole management and maintenance. Alex first appreciated the water user committee for working very hard throughout the whole process of borehole construction and organizing a successful borehole commissioning party that was held. They made it a point that everyone ate the food and the village people had a meal together something that they had never done in a long time. He then told them why this step was also important as well to be ready for the hard job to ensure the borehole can serve everyone in the community as required. Alex reminded them of their individual roles and responsibilities right from the chairperson to the caretaker. Also the committee was told to take the borehole bylaws as serious as possible because this is one way that can ensure proper borehole management. The committee also has to be very active at all times showing all the water users the right thing to be done. Together they agreed that the water user committee takes the lead to ensure proper borehole management and it was also agreed that no one should just come out to tamper with the borehole opening it but rather inform Kibo or a qualified district hand pump mechanic whenever it breaks down or has an issue. So the water user needs to take full responsibility and should be available to witness what is being worked on and a record is taken. The committee needs to be very transparent and call other water users for meetings to discuss the best ways to look after the borehole very well. They also have to hold meetings as a committee and encourage each other to do his job as required. Alex then called on all the water user committee members to mobilize all the members for a meeting with Harriet and the introduction of the stoves program in their village. He asked them to cooperate with the new Kibo staffs that will be partnering with them to develop their community. They were very happy to hear that Kibo will continue to work with them and appreciated Kibo so much for showing them love and promised to cooperate and welcome the new program with open hands and work together.

Next Visit: 2018-07-15 - Purpose: Continue monitoring the borehole status
