Notes
This visit was intended to guide the community to construct a new borehole fence that meets the standard. Alex has to make sure the community gets the right size of poles to be used for a strong borehole fence construction and the fence has to be constructed at least 2ft off the platform to prevent easy damaging of the platform. The community had constructed half of the fence and unfortunately some poles that had been used didn’t meet the standard and Alex ordered them to be removed and replaced with the right sizes. He continued to check on all the homes making sure the sanitation standards is still maintained and asses the general village status . This area being very sandy, some facilities had been damaged by the previous rains but the community has been working to improve their homes. Alex promised the village that the borehole would not be commissioned until every home in the village meets all the sanitation standards. The community is busy trying to smear their homes after Alex told to smear their home adding beauty to their village. Alex will go back to continue going through the remaining steps before the borehole commissioning. The community has to also come up with the borehole bylaws that will guide them on how best they can take good care of their borehole. This village is very thankful to Kibo group for encouraging all the people to have the pit latrines in their homes and know the importance of all the sanitation facilities. Before Kibo came to this village, many people didn’t take it serious that a pit latrine was important and many people were defecating in the open.
