- Notes
- This was probably Alex’s last part of the training session with the water user committee and together with the committee, they discussed their individual roles on the committee right from the chairperson of the committee to the borehole caretakers. Each individual was asked to say what he/she thinks are his roles that he can play on the committee and all were able to mention them. The water user committee for this village is comprised of 11 committee members and out of 11, 10 members attended this meeting. Alex told this committee that a big job awaits them and they all supposed to play their roles as required. For example the chairman of the water user committee, Mr John Kiige needs to guide all his committee members on what to do and have quarterly water user committee meetings and hold also the quarterly meetings for all the water users.
The committee was also reminded to exhibit a high level of transparency to keep trust from the community members and this will enable every water user to be very responsible and to continue contributing towards their borehole account and also to respect the bylaws. Alex told them that this borehole can be locked by Kibo if the water user committee fails to perform its roles and no one takes good care of the borehole. They have to remind everyone in the community to maintain their hygiene and sanitation facilities in the community and if they fail to maintain the general village sanitation status, the borehole can also be locked down. The water user committee together with the community members are organizing a borehole commissioning party and are happy to host them to have a meal together with them in their communities. Alex will go back with other Kibo representatives and the government officials for the borehole commissioning of this new borehole as it’s a requirement from the government to commission a new borehole in any village.
