Notes
Enock and Martin went to this village to check on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, clean compounds and use of rubbish pits. They encouraged the residents to construct good facilities which are strong and sustainable. They saw some new dish racks, 4 new latrine holes that are still under construction, the homes in the trading center have managed to construct latrines with cement, sand and bricks. The community members are embracing the program to improve on their sanitation and hygiene. Martin taught the people who had many flies in their latrine to use ash from their kitchen. They made a demonstration in one of the latrines and people who where around so how important the use of ash is. The local leaders who walk with us every time we visit this village are also learning how we teach and this is a sign of sustainability even though we are not on ground, they are able to teach their fellow residents how to construct good standard structures and encouraging them the benefits of sanitation. They emphasized the residents to be more responsible to work hard and improve their sanitation and hygiene. This is because they are the ones practicing open defection, let everyone in this community watch and encourage their fellow neighbors to have a latrine in every home. We got a chance to continue sensitizing the community members about the dangers of open defection, diseases that are caused say diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, typhoid, trachoma and more which may result to death as well as increase of poverty in homes due to a lot of expenditures on medication and less productivity. The homes which we visited are working towards improving their sanitation and hygiene.
