Notes
Today Enock traveled to this village to check on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower area, kitchen areas, clean compounds and hand washing facilities. He met with the chairman LC1 and VHTs to discuss how which area they will walk in, ask questions and encourage them to improve their sanitation and hygiene as well as be great examples to the rest of the community members. He also encouraged them to take the lead in Monitoring their fellow residents to work hard, teach the benefits of sanitation of the whole community. After the small discussion, they decided to walk around and check on the new latrines, new hand washing station and dish racks. As they were walking around, Enock was teaching the importance of hand washing facilities and the benefits of washing hand. He was also reminding the rest of the community members who haven’t constructed hand washing stations to construct one and always use it to clean their hands after visiting the latrine and before eating any meal. Most of the hand washing stations which we saw are still well maintained and functioning. The community is progressing so well and has greatly improved their sanitation. Despite of improving their sanitation levels, Enock reminded the importance of all the sanitation facilities, taught them the dangers of open defecation and diseases which may be caused say diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, trachoma, tetanus among other diseases. This may led to continuous expenditure on medication, poverty, less concentration in schools since kids are sickly and also breakups in marriages due to loss of lives caused by poor sanitation and accusations. They encouraged unity, cooperation in families to improve, maintain their facilities. Homes with many flies in the latrines, where emphasized to use ash everyday, clean their latrines. This will help to chase flies which are components of moving germs from one place to another for example to food. The community members responded so well and are willing to work hard to improve their sanitation as a whole.
