Notes
This visit was aimed at following up on the sanitation and hygiene standards in the village reminding everyone to maintain the required standards. There were a few homes in the upper part of Nabituluntu village that needed more encouragement because during the previous evaluation, these homes hadn’t met the standards needed. The sanitation committee was encouraged to follow up on them and also WASH made an effort to meet these people to finish all the required standards. Alex moved with three water user committees in about 30 homes checking on all facilities in the homes and they found that most of the facilities were still being maintained like the pit latrines. Alex continued to encourage the people to use ash in their pit latrines to prevent the bad smell and reduce flies. However some dish racks were getting old and also the people were told to quickly start to replace those that were getting very old. In the upper Nabituluntu village, the chairman LC 1and the water user committee have been very active to encourage the rest of the people to contribute money towards their borehole future operation and maintenance cost. The borehole is still functioning but the borehole fence had started to collapse because of the old poles. The committee promised to work on a new fence as soon as possible. The new Kibo well in the lower Nabituluntu village, is also being highly maintained and the chairman of the water user committee, mr. Sam Garevu is doing a very good job reminding all the water users about all the borehole bylaws and contribute monthly dues towards the borehole future Operation and Maintenance account. A general community meeting will be held in a near future to guide and meet all the villagers about the hygiene and sanitation standards and maintenance of boreholes and the village will need to come up with a plan to ensure how this is going to be done before WASH exits this village.
