Notes
Enock and Martin went to this village to check on the latrine progress in homes which have not yet completed their facilities during the previous visit. They had a number of target homes which needed a lot of guidance, sensitization, encouragement about dangers caused due to open defection, diseases which may rise and even kill their children or families, they also demonstrated how to use ash in latrines, spoke about proper maintenance of the facilities as well as encouraging sustainable development through constructing latrines with good building materials. As they were walking around, they teamed up with some local leaders who have been instrumental in this program. The community members are embracing the program and also encouraging the few home which don’t have latrines to construct them very fast. They walked in target homes which they saw two new latrines, this was so impressive. There are also six newly constructed dish racks, four new shower areas, seven new rubbish pits dug and all are in use. Suliaman the old man has also been encouraging the moslem members that go to the same mosque for prayers to improve on their sanitation since their religion also promotes sanitation. After walking around many homes, we attended a funeral of an old lady who had passed on in this village. Most of the community members had gathered at the funeral and it was neat to be with them during the hardship and gave them our sincere condolences to the family that losses their beloved one. After the funeral, we had to drive back to jinja and plan on the next visit.
