Notes
The community of kagulu is working hard to improve on the sanitation levels of their village. Martin and Enock checked on the latrine progress, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, cloth lines, rubbish pits and also encouraged the standardization of all the facilities as well as maintenance through use of Ash in the latrines to chase flies which continuous transfer germs from one place to another. They walked around with the chairman LC1 and VHTs in homes which are have not completed the construction of latrines. In those home which didn’t have latrines before, they saw 4 newly constructed latrines with brick walls. Although there has been a big challenge of getting roofing materials. Some of the residents are using banana leaves, banana steams, grass for those who can find some although few homes can afford iron sheets for roofing. They encouraged them to roof their facilities because during the rainfall season most of the families loose their latrine structures since there is no roof so the water penetrates easily and destroys it. When taught the why it’s so important to have their structures roofed. They also taught the community residents how to construct good dish racks with good pole after teaching them how it’s so important it is. There has been a great improvement in sanitation and hygiene of this community. Enock and Martin had a short meet with the community leaders about the upcoming third evaluation which will be done on Friday. They encouraged all the leaders to be around and available so that they can walk around with the WASH team as they conduct the last evaluation survey.
