Notes
Enock and Martin went to this village to carry out hand washing triggering in the upper section since few of them came for the first hand washing triggering session which took place in the lower section of this village. There has been a big difference in the home of the lower section which attended triggering in hand washing. The homes of in the lower section have most of the facilities since they attend the meetings and the residents from the upper section claim that the location of the meeting spot is very distant from them especially when they first go to the garden and come home. We considered them, and planned to carry out triggering in hand washing in the upper section. When Enock and Martin reached the village, they met a few people waiting on them, as they were told other people are soon joining them. As they waited on the other residents to turn up for the meeting, they Enock walked around in the lower section to check on the progress of hand washing facilities and construction. They saw 8 newly constructed hand washing station good and we emphasized on standardization as well as sustainability. There are some new latrines constructed as well maintained. After the quick village tour, they came back to the meeting spot to start the triggering session. The chairman open the meeting and welcomed us to start the lessons. We started by asking questions like who says his or hands are clean, let two volunteers come in from one lady and one male. Discussion of which diseases which result due to poor sanitation and not washing hands very well. We also asked questions how much is the life of their children to see people’s reactions. We got answers like the life is not worthy any amount. First of all the volunteers who came forward, they washed there Hands with out and we placed the water back in the transparent bag where everyone can see how the water looked. It was brown in color, then we told them to wash with soap still the water looked brown with form on top. Then after that, we tile the people to rinse their hands with water to see the difference. The community members saw all the different stages and saw how it’s so important to wash their hands with soap. We talked about the diseases which may affect the residents, expenses spent on medical. The lessons all went well and everyone in this section left when they have learnt so well and will construct good standard hand washing facilities.
