Notes
This was the first day of the new borehole drilling in Ituba village. The drilling contractor, Draco started the drilling process very early in the morning at 7am. The Kibo group team joined them later in the morning and found them when they had done some work already. They had drilled up to 15 meters but that hole was abandoned because of the challenging soil formation and a hanging rock that could allow the casings to sit to avoid soil from collapsing into the hole. They had to shift 3 meters away from that hole and started to drill again. This too wasn’t any different from the first one only that this time round the first rock was got at 18M compared to the first one which was got at 3M. In general, this village was very tricky and challenging right from the time of water surveying. The first of drilling wasn’t easy as it was full of challenges encountering the rock and soft soil that kept collapsing making the drilling process very hard and installing the temporary casings wasn’t easy too. The drillers managed to drill 45M the first day but couldn’t get out the temporary casings that has got stuck. They also managed to hit the first water at 18M and more water at 25M.
During the following day on Sunday 09/12/2018, the drillers managed to retrieve all the casings and they decided to install the permanent casings. They wanted to continue drilling more but it was very hard and they decided to develop the water that had been hit in the hole of 45M. After installing the permanent casings, blowing of the water to clear started but this too wasn’t easy as it took 7 hours before the water would clear. This took long because of the red mud soil that collapsed into the hole during the drilling process and also when the gravel was being poured it got mixed together. The water was measured and driller’s yield was estimated at 1200L/hr. Another team would come in very soon to carry out pump testing and blowing before installing the pipes and casting the platform . This team has to be very sure that the water has cleared very well and a water sample got before installing the pipes
