Notes
Introduction Lorna went to this village to review all the previous subtopics under Life Skills and also to introduce the new topic Relationship skills. Overview Lorna started by reviewing the topics under HIV and she did this by asking a few participants to take the group through some of the topics taught. There were 4 participants who all reminded the community of the previous lessons. They were able to teach about HIV transmission, HIV prevention and universal precautions, the relationship between STDs and HIV/AIDs. Here swaibu was able to mention the symptoms of the various STDs and explained to the community members how having an std puts one at risk of contracting HIV more than that one without. Other topics discussed were Disease Progression and positive behavior, women and HIV/AIDS ,cure and treatment among others. Lorna concluded the HIV topic with HIV and Behavioral change. Behavioral change is something that one does to avert a situation or to overcome a certain behavior/problem/challenge. For example a person living with HIV , what are some of those behaviors that they can avoid to prevent them from getting sick faster. They looked at drinking alcohol, not smoking, being faithful to their partners, avoiding many sexual partners , testing for HIV for those unsure of their status. Lorna gave them different scenarios of people , families living with HIV but did not know they had it and why they were falling sick and being HIV positive were the last thing on their mind. The community members were then supposed to suggest solutions for these people. They mentioned Counseling, HIV testing, adapting new behaviors , taking medication religiously among others. Conclusion Lorna concluded by introducing relationship skills where she mentioned some of the topics being ; managing emotions, Gender roles, Love, gender and culture among others. Lorna also urged the community members to stay safe and practice everything that was taught to them and wished them a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
