Notes
Alex first went to Luuka district offices to meet the district water officer and also give a report about the newly constructed borehole in Ikumbya village. The district water office opened up a Kibo file where all documents concerning boreholes drilled by Kibo can be kept. The district can refer to this file Incase they want to carry out any future work on any borehole. He managed to meet the district community development officer and he was very happy for the Kibo support towards the luuka district. He then proceeded to Ikumbya and met with all the water users and the new water committee. Together with the health assistant and the community development officer they reminded all the people to always be responsible and take good care of their borehole. The CDO emphasized on borehole ownership and contribution of operation and maintenance fee for the future borehole repairs. It was told that responsibility of this borehole is for every body and not to think that only the committee members have to be responsible. Together with all the community members, they went through the by-laws that the community members came up with and agreed to follow. They told them to always refer to those by-laws because they will guide them to take good care of their borehole. They held a training of the water committee reminding them of all their responsibilities and always being active that’s when the borehole will last for long and be able to help them as required. The rumors that were causing some divisions amongst the community members were discussed and resolved to avoid things that can divide the community. They were called on to work together and that’s when Ikumbya can reach great heights.
