- Notes
- Alex was in Buyange to follow up on the new borehole status that was recently drilled by Kibo group. This was found in a good condition and still functioning very well however the borehole fence soon needs to be replaced since some poles were eaten up by termites. The water user committee chairperson Faridah promised to talk to the rest of the water users and quickly work on the fence as this was also on top of their agenda. The well has never had any breakdown issue since it was drilled and the borehole account has risen up to 450,000/= because the water users keep on contributing money as it was agreed upon in the bylaws that the community agreed to follow. Alex also reminded the water committee to be very active and ensure that the borehole is looked after very well and all the water users respect the bylaws.
Together with 5 people, they visited about 15 homes checking on the sanitation standards in the village and it was observed that the village was still maintaining these facilities. Some people were encouraged to replace the dish racks were starting to bend down due to termites and Alex showed them a better way of constructing the movable dish racks that can’t easily be eaten up by termites.
This is a new way that WASH is promoting in the villages after realizing that the stationed dish racks do last longer because most of them are eaten up by the termites. The new village chairman was however not present at the time when we were moving around but his vice joined us and Alex asked if the new village leadership committee had a plan to make sure the village sanitation standards is maintained.
He told Alex that yes the LC committee has a plan and they want to supplement on the great job that Kibo has done in Buyange and so they want to make sure that the village maintains this status because was really badly off before Kibo came to work. The village leadership committee requested for a village meeting together with Kibo so that a lot can be discussed in this meeting on a way forward to maintain the village sanitation. This meeting shall be scheduled in the second week of March and the village leaders will be called to mobilize everyone to attend.
