Notes
Enock and Martin went to this village to check on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen, clean compounds, smeared homes among other residents. Since most people already constructed latrines in their homes, we are focusing on the few homes which have not yet completed their latrines and those that are still digging latrines. When we walked around, we saw three new latrines that are under construction, two new shower area though they didn’t have a proper drainage on their showers so we had to teach them the importance of having a soak pit. The residents are working so hard to construct good sanitation facilities since we are emphasizing good standard facilities. There is a gentleman called kabwiso who is digger no his new latrines. Kabibu Mugali, Muzamilu are both constructed there new latrines and promised to complete by next this weekend. During this visit, we discussed with the community members the the importance of sanitation and hygiene. We taught these families the diseases which may result say diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, trachoma which may even result to death. We also put more emphasis on leaders to be more exemplary so that they can be able to encourage fellow members to increase their sanitation. Martin taught the women how to smear and the importance of smearing their houses. We emphasized the importance of ash in latrines, many people have understood the benefits and their has been a great change.
