Notes
Enock and Martin made a first visit to this community ever since they finished doing a baseline last year. They visited this community to meet with the local leaders, walk around to check on the latrines that are under construction, talk about triggering session in open defection. When we arrived, we went straight to the chairman’s home to meet with him. As we reached, he went to also invite the VHTs to come and we meet. During our meeting we introduced our selves, talked about the upcoming general meeting to trigger in open defection. We also shared the information from the baseline which we conducted last year. They saw how badly their village didn’t have latrines and a lot of open defection which leads to many diseases for example dysentery, trachoma, diarrhea, cholera which may kill a great number of residents in this village. The leaders were so happy and grateful for the upcoming general meeting and triggering. After the meeting we had to walk around this village to mobilize, check on the new latrines constructed, new latrine pits under that are still under construction. The reason as to why there are some new latrines under construction, is that there is a great spill off effect from the neighboring village of Igerera B who where taught last year. We saw some new latrines already constructed and this shows how these people are responding to the program although we haven’t triggered. We shall be triggering before the end of the month.
