Notes
It was a meeting about the importance of having the money on the borehole account and about how that money needs to be managed. Many boreholes breakdown but will take long to be fixed just because communities don’t have systematic plans in place of putting money aside to meet the repair charges. All our boreholes drilled by Kibo have a plan of making sure that money is put aside to meet any future breakdowns that might come. In this case the community is encouraged to have a start up amount on their account amounting to 300,000sh. Then they are called on to have user fees that are to be contributed in a given period by all water users to grow the existing borehole account. They discussed the importance of having this money, ways of managing this money and how this money can be got from the water users. The community members all agreed it was their responsibility to take good care of their borehole by having money put aside to meet any future repairs. Also they pointed out ways how they will be able to contribute this money. For example, they will put up fines on any one that will fault the rules and regulations, have a time to only fundraise for their borehole and put up mandatory user fees that one has to contribute before he/ she can be allowed to fetch water. Also it was noticed that the committee that was selected in the beginning needed to be changed because it was gender imbalanced. There were few women on the committee and so a new committee was also selected. This time women dominating all the key positions of treasurer, vice chairperson, secretary, care takers and advisor. Next meeting they will discuss the best way of how their money will be kept and well managed. This borehole will soon be completed and only waiting installation of the borehole putting in the pipes , pump testing and casting the borehole.
