Notes
There are so many new latrines construction in this village although kibo Water sanitation and hygiene program left this village year ages. The people and leaders in this community have taken the initiative to continue promoting good sanitation. This is realized when we saw some new pit latrines, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen area, clean compounds, smeared facilities and use of rubbish pits. There is a family consisting of old people in this village which has greatly invested in their new latrine and shower area. They paid off someone to dig for them a 25 ft deep latrine, bought cement, sand, brick and gravel to construct a ventilated improved pit latrine. The latrine looks so beautiful, well constructed and neatly maintained. Enock and Martin taught them the importance of using ash in their latrines, encouraged them to also construct a good hand washing station so that they can wash their hands after visiting the latrine. In addition they Enock continued sensitizing the residents, evaluating the progress of sanitation and hygiene, monitoring the new latrines which are under construction, guiding the residents how to maintain their facilities, emphasizing good standard facilities. When we walked around we also saw many new latrine pit which are still under construction. Generally there has been proper maintenance of many new facilities in this village. During this visit, we had gone to check on the homes which don’t have latrines and edit them in the third evaluation survey which was conducted last year. We couldn’t go a head to do it because the chairman and VHTs where in the village, they had called them for a meeting at the sub county. We are planning to make another visit to make the edit in the third evaluation.
