Notes
This was the first follow up visit after the triggering session about sanitation about two weeks ago. Together with Four sanitation committee members, moved home to home in about 29 homes checking on all facilities but emphasized on new pit construction. The tools that Kibo gave the community are of great help to many of the people now using them to construct new pits. Two new pits were being dug, one was 20ft deep and still going while the other one was nearing 30ft. On a very good note, the pit latrine coverage in the village went up from last year after the government and another organization called plan international sensitized the village about sanitation. In most homes, Kibo group will deal with standards in all the facilities making sure all of them meet the required standards needed. We will continue to guide all the people in the village on facility standards and emphasizing on pit latrine construction standards. The hand washing program was tried in this village by plan international but unfortunately it did not work because the village is faced with a problem of people who look for plastic scrap to buy and sale so all the small Jerrycans that had been used for tippy taps were stolen and taken for scrap. This is a very big challenge in this village and a lot of discussions shall continue on how to approach this issue. However, generally the village is very cooperative and those that had some of their facilities getting old are now working on them.
