- Anger Lesson 10: Keeping a handle on anger
- Notes
- Ida went to Bupeni and taught about holding Anger
She first asked the community to remind her what is Anger, Fred said that anger is a demon that forces someone to react a certain way.
Margaret said that anger is a complicated human response.
Ida said that how we handle anger is our responsibility, not the person or situation connected with our anger.
Every person needs to learn how to be slow to anger. Being slow to anger is emphasized because it is the path for preventing more anger. In order to deal with our anger, what is needed is the knowledge and skill of being able to discern if, when and how it is best to express it.
Ida gave some steps to follow when dealing with angry people.
Remain calm. Listen to the person, Agree when possible, Absolutely give no solutions.
If the person asks for your suggestion, watch their eyes while you are talking. If you see indications of disagreement- back off. Later the person may come back to you for information.
If anger knocks your way, sing some songs, listen to gospel music if possible, go to your friends and share the problem.
Ida concluded by reading a scripture from (Numbers 20:12). Failure to handle his anger kept Moses out of the promised land.
