Notes
Tom made a visit to igerera village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as facility constructions. When he arrived in the village, he found when the chairman of the village was very busy with children registrations which the government is demanding from every school going child. Tom started off from the chairman’s home and was directed to the school and on reaching the school, he found most parents and members of the committee also at the primary school. They had also taken there children for that registration. The chairman had also left the primary school and had gone to the swamp to settle some land disputes. After a while, The chairman came back and suggested to Tom that they move to the upper section of the village. They started off from the section near the primary school where they encouraged two residents to construct better structures on there pits. In one home, they encouraged the resident to start on a new pit as the current latrine is filling up. From that section they moved to the upper section near the main road. In one home near the church, they found an old man whom they encouraged to finish his latrine. He had already put on the logs and was saving money to give someone to help him construct the latrine. His neighbor has also started on new pit realizing that the old one is getting full. On the issue of roofing! Only one resident has started roofing his latrine. They found when he was constructing the frame for the roof. Tom was also taking pictures for the latrines that will be roofed using the iron sheets. Tom in several homes was encouraging the residents about standard improvements of the facilities by using better construction materials. After moving around, Tom left for jinja.
