Notes
Introduction Lorna went to teach on Decision making. Lorna taught the steps involved in making good decisions. Introduction Lorna went together with Gerald a friend to a Falon and Nate who wanted to know what Life Skills Program entails. They started by going to the Headteachers office where they had a brief chat before going to the Life Skills class. In the class Lorna and another teacher started by giving out the Pretest sheets, books and pens. After this activity they went ahead and did a review of the questions that they did not complete on the previous visit. A Pretest includes questions on all topics under Life Skills Education and Counseling. After finishing the preview because there was not enough time, they went straight to the topic of the day a Decision Making Skills. Lorna started by asking what is Decision making in the local language and they responded “Okusalawo. Lorna then asked them to then try and go ahead and define the term decision making. They were able to define it as a process of making a good or bad decision. Lorna told the pupils that everyday we are faced with different choices to make and it is up to us to decide what we will go with. Lorna gave examples like ; you can decide to go to school or not and whichever one decides to go with they are certain things they need to look into before finally deciding on what to do. She added that these were the steps they were going to look at. She added it may be about drinking alcohol, joining bad peer groups, having sex however here she emphasized that at their age they should not be having sex but abstain. Therefore before any decision is made one has to consider the steps, outcomes and challenges that come with the decision made. Some of the steps they looked at were; Prayer where Lorna said prayer is an important step towards making decisions because we need guidance in our everyday life and God grants us this guidance. Others were ; Defining the problem, thinking about the problem, seeking advice from others, listening to the advice given, considering personal and family values, consider cultural practices and religious beliefs, considering all the options given , consequences and outcome of each option among others. Lorna explained each of these steps to the pupils and what they each meant. Lorna stopped there because of time and told the pupils they will continue from there on the next lesson. Conclusion Lorna advised the pupils to be obedient , respect their teachers and make good decisions.
