Notes
Overview Kibo staff Manuela, Lorna and Tape went to this village to teach Decision Making. Overview Manuela, Lorna together with Jeska Were in this village to continue teaching on the steps involved in Decision making. Manuela and Lorna taught this lesson previously and so they wanted to finalize with it on this day. Manuela and Lorna co-taught this lesson whereby Manuela taught most of it and Lorna would chip in as she also wrote whatever they were talking about on the white board in Lusoga so they can understand well. They went through all the steps while giving examples in each scenario. The steps looked at were ; Stop to think about the challenge at hand, Seek advice, listen to advice was an important step because some people ask for the advice but do not follow or pay attention yet they came seeking for it. Define the real problem, Pray, consider personal and family values, consider cultural and religious values , consider consequences of the decision, consider the impact on other people. Here we gave an example of if one was buying land, and despite several advises about wrangles on that land he/She still went ahead and bought the land. Later on in the years the actual owner of the land comes in claiming for the land and yet it’s too late and they begin to fight over it and the children are now involved to. Choose the best alternative ,Decide , Act on the Decision ,accept responsibility. These were some of the steps looked at however, they did not limit the community to these steps the intention was to encourage the community think through thoroughly before making decisions. They also looked at the disadvantages of making rational decisions and this was asked to the community. They gave examples like; wrangles, families falling apart, creating enmity, poverty among others. They also mentioned some of the advantages of making the decision after looking at the steps like; peace of mind, happiness and fulfillment in the family, friendships are created, proper future planning among others. Jeska also encouraged the community members to always find time and talk through things together with the whole family for the happiness of the family. She talked of those children who have swayed from the right path and have been caught up doing drugs, being idle, dropping out of school because of wrong decisions they made, she urged the parents not to give up on them but help them point them to the right direction by weighing options like mentioned earlier. Conclusion Manuela and Lorna mentioned to the group that on the next visit they I’ll be looking at Life Story’s where by we will get two or three volunteers sharing with the entire group about their life and challenges they went through so as for other people to relate and encourage one another. This is also to let the community know everyone has challenges but how you overcome is the question.
