Notes
On reaching the village, Tom first moved around the village checking on sanitation and hygiene improvements and construction of facilities as well as encouraging residents to continue working together and improve on their homes. In 6 homes, they found new pits being dug while in 4 others, construction was taking place. After moving around the village, Tom and some of the committee members came back to the meeting place and waited for the residents to gather before the meeting started. When the meeting started, Tom gave the opportunity to the committee members to share about their challenges as well as encouragements of the program. Many of them thanked kibo for great work they have done in the village towards improving the sanitation and hygiene in the village. They also talked about the challenges they face with some residents where other residents insult them when they go to check on their facilities as well as sanitation improvements. Also, one committee member was very thankful to the fact that Wanda who had never had a latrine in the whole village now has one for his family and the member also testified that in Wanda’s home, for the first time there is no open defecation. One woman from the community also thanked kibo for going to their village because now , many husbands in the village have worked to improve on their homes which was not their before. Tom encouraged the committee members to be strong in their work as in their reward is in heaven and that even the community members will appreciate them in the future. Tom also encouraged them to each have set a commitment and making their homes better for this Christmas. If one did not have a latrine, them the commitment should be to construct a latrine for his/her family as well as other facilities. Tom also encouraged them to set dates for when some facilities will be completed in their homes (to set schedules for working on home facilities) either to do one facility each week or two each week until all the facilities are done in the home. Tom thanked them for their cooperation with Kibo and encouraged them to continue doing so.
