Notes
Harriet made a surprise visit to Nawandyo and this was intended to assess the level of sustainability of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program. Also to find out how many people use their stoves on daily basis. She walked into the homes of the participants while inspecting the stoves whether they were being used and also whether the home facilities have been smeared. This village was taught how to build stoves by Nawandyo A after their were taught by kibo group. Harriet was led by the Chairperson of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program through the homes. Interestingly all the homes visited were using the their fuel efficient stoves on daily basis and this was evidenced by the absence of three stones in the kitchen and also finding food cooking by itself. Also most people had fire raised places in their kitchens full of firewood which was a sign of showing that the fuel efficient stoves uses less fire and also as a sign of planning for the future in case the rain season starts. It was also found out that most people had smeared their home facilities and the stoves showing how much their appreciate the program. Also the members told Harriet that the Healthy and Safe kitchen program has helped them to save time since food cooks first, saves firewood as well as improved their marriage relationship since the absence of smoke has attracted their men in the kitchen as their cook food while discussing their marriage issues.
