Notes
Suzan went to the village to follow up on the smearing lessons and also to monitor other facilities for the healthy and safe kitchen program. When she arrived at the village, she went to the program committee chairperson’s home and found some community members gathered under a mango tree nearby her home. The members warmly welcomed Suzan to their village, and after exchanging greetings and having a few discussions, Suzan informed the members of her intentions that day and together they stood up and began moving around the village visiting home to home while monitoring the program facilities. During the monitoring process, Suzan found out that most members had smeared their homes while others were in the process. The community had also improved on their sanitation and hygiene according to Suzan’s observations while others seemed to be very lazy participating in the program lessons claiming to be sick all the time. Most of the energy saving stoves were found in good shape and well maintained together with other home facilities while others needed improvement and repair such as the drying racks, shower areas, latrines, kitchens and the energy saving stoves. Suzan encouraged the members with poor facilities to work on them so that they would live a better healthy life within their community. She also emphasized on smearing their houses for this would minimize dust and insects such as jiggers, mosquitoes, ticks which would affect their healthy lives. The members was so grateful for the Kibo programs so far introduced in their community promising to always work together for an effective development in their village. The members thanked Suzan for teaching them and wished her a safe journey back home.
