Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Harriet,Suzan,Tape and Jessica went to the village with the purpose of introducing the Healthy and Safe kitchen program to the community. On arriving there, they met some members at their homes preparing to go for the meeting which was going to take place at the community church. Kibo staff decided to first visit home to home while inspecting the home facilities such as the latrines, kitchens, bathrooms, drying racks and rubbish pits. This was very important because kibo staff needed to know if the facilities required were either in good or bad state. Later on, kibo staff together with the community met at the church and settled down for a meeting. Harriet welcomed the members to the meeting and thanked them for keeping time. She humbly requested everyone at the meeting to at least introduce their selves by the names and where they stayed for easy identification. There after, kibo staff took turns introducing the Healthy and Safe kitchen program to the community. Suzan talked about the goals and objectives and how the program would benefit them once they accepted to learn and participate in all the program lessons. The community was also given chance to identify the challenges that they faced while they used the three stone open flames for cooking. This helped them realize how unhealthy they were living thus wanting to improve on their healthy wellbeing. Tape and Jessica spoke about the requirements each home needed before receiving an energy saving stove such as a good smeared kitchen with a strong wall and roof, a well built bathroom and latrine plus a rubbish pit. Having all these requirements reflected a good healthy home and also helped kibo staff carry out the program lessons effectively. Later, the entire community accepted the Healthy and Safe kitchen program saying it would greatly improve on their healthy lives. Harriet then requested the community members to suggest the right date, time and venue that the program meetings would always be carried out, which was selected and agreed upon. The meeting finally came to an end with the members happily wishing kibo staff a safe journey back home.
