Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Harriet and Martin had planned to meet the community local leaders and the meeting was intended to introduce the Healthy and Safe kitchen program . They got to the village and found when the vhts and the local leaders were already waiting for them at the meeting place. As soon as they sat down for the meeting other people from the village also came to listen to what the meeting was all about. Kibo staff and the chairperson LC1 welcomed the other community members for the meeting. kibo staff briefly introduced the Healthy and Safe kitchen program to the local leaders and the few people who were at the meeting. The leaders were very excited about the program and asked Harriet to tell them when they should have the next meeting because who ever was there promised to mobilize others for the next meeting because they feel the program is very beneficial to them. Kibo staff guided the community together with the leaders to chose a day that is most convenient for both the community and kibo group. They successfully chose the date but the challenge was time because most people were proposing the meetings to be held at 4:00pm which is only convenient for them but hard for kibo staff. Harriet requested them to adjust on time because the program involves more of practical work that requires ample time for the work to be done therefore the meetings should always begin early. At the end of the meeting the time agreed was 12:00 pm which is convenient for all the parties. After the meeting kibo staff was led by the community members to walk around a few homes to see whether they have all the facilities that are required for the Healthy and Safe kitchen program. It was very interesting to see that all the homes visited had nice big kitchens, latrines, shower areas , compounds well swept among others required for the Healthy and Safe kitchen program.
