Notes
Alex was in Bulinda village for a meeting with all the water users that get water from this broken well. This well broke down a few months ago and there is a great need to get it fixed because of many of the people that struggle to look for water walking a long distance to the next borehole in the nearby village. This meeting was intended to bring all parties together and agree on a way forward to fix this well. The community needs to be involved and contribute money towards their borehole before Kibo can chip in also to help fix it. This well was drilled by Kibo group back in 2010 but it has had many challenges breaking down many times and the community has come together many times to fix it. The last time it broke down, the village came together and contributed 350,000/= towards the repair but unfortunately it only worked for two days and it broke down again. The village had reached a point of almost giving up on repairing the well because of these rampant breakdowns. This meeting was aimed to bring people together and not to give up since when they continue to work together everything can be possible and even when it’s a big problem. This time round the borehole needs 10 new pipes and rods, new cylinder and head assembly. This will cost about 4.5M to buy all these parts needed. Alex encouraged everyone to be involved to get borehole repaired again and this is when kibo will be able to help them too. About 30 homes are in extreme water need and are willing to contribute money towards their borehole repair. While in the meeting, the community was very happy to hear that Kibo was to help them fix their well something that wasn’t expected since a Kibo had done its part of giving a well to this village. The village is promising to contribute 300,000/= towards their well repair meaning that each home is willing to contribute 10,000/=. This was suggested while in the meeting after Alex told the community that Kibo will come snider to do something if at all the village also contributed money for the well repair. The village said that it has had challenges of a bad season and the village will find it hard to raise money. The water user committee is present and active and the village Sanitation status is generally good. The WASH team will plan to go back and carry out a baseline survey to asses the current Sanitation status of the village.
