Notes
Enock and Martin made a visit in this community to continue checking on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen area, rubbish pits. They taught the community members about the importance of sanitation and hygiene and emphasized the dangers of open defecation which have greatly brought/ caused many diseases and more expenditure on medication which may lead to even death of the beloved ones. They reminded the residents about the core benefits of good sanitation facilities which lead to development in homes and the whole community since families are able to save more money hence economic growth. During the follow up visit, they saw 3 newly constructed dish racks, two new latrines with the wall structure constructed. There are many new latrines and shower areas being smeared. As we continued walking around we also emphasized on standardization of all the facilities, encouraged use of bricks, cement and sand to those families which are able to get those materials, and those families which can’t afford were also empowered to use good materials like bricks, mix the mud and smear well. The residents have embraced the program and working hard to complete all the facilities in their homes. There is a group of gentleman who learnt well the construction of dish racks and they are moving around the community teaching, encouraging and constructing for their fellow residents to construct good dish racks. They have so far completed constructing 10 new dish racks which are strong. There is already a great improvement in the sanitation levels of this village every home is working so hard to have a good latrine facility, good shower area, rubbish pits as we also taught them how to use latrines and maintain the hygiene with their homes.
