Notes
Alex was in Kagulu village for a meeting with the community to select some new members on the water user committee and prepare the village for the borehole installation and test pumping expected soon. After successful drilling of the new borehole in Kagulu located in Bukufe zone, some of the members on the water committee had shown signs of being inactive because they are very far from the borehole. It’s very important to have an active and effective water user committee from the beginning. While in the meeting, the chairman of the water user committee, Mr. Steven Kighanda was present and he was asked by the fellow community members if he was fine with the rest of his committee members and if they were still working together. The chairman expressed that they were working together and even during the drilling period, they worked together moving home to home asking people to contribute money for the borehole. The attendance was not very good to confirm this and so it was pushed to the next meeting when all the water user committee members are present to see if this same committee will be left to continue working. Many people were unable to attend this meeting because they went to another meeting in the nearby village to supply food that had been gathered to help those without food. Alex appreciated the village and the leaders that spear headed this act of helping their friends that are starving and going without food. He encouraged everyone to continue with this spirit of togetherness and helping those in need. Namutumba in general has been so much affected by the long dry spell that left many people without what to eat. While in the meeting the village leaders that were present were requested to guide their fellow members towards maintaining their sanitation facility standards and to encourage all the village members to work together in even other areas. The new borehole when complete should continue to bind the community and everyone in Kagulu to benefit from it. Alex also gave out the land agreement to the village leaders and the land owner. The village for the first time after a long time, received some rain two days ago and so many people were busy in their gardens to plant seeds and now there is some hope for Kagulu village. The village was told to be prepared to for the next team that will be coming to install this well some time soon and also be ready to work with them. They were told to continue with the borehole contribution and those that have not yet completed to be contacted and asked to raise the money. The next meeting was scheduled for the 29/04/2019 to continue with the training of the water user committee after the community agreeing together and the confirm the water user committee and select the borehole caretakers. The village will continue to be reminded of their roles and responsibilities towards their borehole

The village LC 1 leaders of the four zones that make up Kagulu village need to keep encouraging their people towards maintaining the hygiene standards and to work together until the borehole construction is done.
