- Introduction
Abstinence is the way of staying without having sex till marriage, in most African home
it is very hard for parents to talk to their children about sex and abstinence. Abstinence is good it enables the teenagers to be free from early marriages, early pregnancy and even sexually transmitted diseases. The pupils were few and it was their last day in school till next term.
Objective
By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to know what abstinence is
By the end of the lesson., pupils will know the importance of abstinence to their lives.
Overview
When Manuela entered the life skills class, she greeted the pupils and told them about what they are going to learn, Kibo staff told the pupils that they are going to learn about the importance of abstinence, some pupils were surprised, others just laughing and the other did not know the ward abstinence it’s like they hear it but they don’t know what it means. Manuela asked the pupils what is abstinence? Pupils could not answer because they don’t know what it is, Manuela explained to the pupils what abstinence is and the importance too.
Is was really good for Manuela to teach the pupils about the importance of abstinence since they are soon going for the school break (holidays), this lesson will encourage them to stay away from early sex practices, during this lesson, Manuela told the pupils that if they abstain, they will not have problems like , dropping out of school due to cases of early pregnancy and marriages and above all they will be free from sexually transmitted diseases for example like Syphilis, gonorrhea and HIV/ AIDS which is too deadly. As she was explaining that one of the pupils asked that is it good for them use condom..? Manuela was speechless, she told them that at their age they are only to abstinence, condoms are for married couples. Manuela went on and asked the pupils that who is a virgin in this class? Some girls were trying to raise up theirs hands but their fellow pupils would mock them that they not virgins...Manuela encouraged them to abstain till marriage.
Finally, she advised them to be good boys and girls during this holidays and she also told them to work hand in hand with their parents for instance like farm work, bricks laying if their parents dose that and among others.
