Notes
Tom made a visit to kisiro village to check on improvements made in sanitation and hygiene as well as focusing on homes that are yet to finish there facilities. When Tom arrived to the village, he found when it had rained heavily the night before. He was welcomed with the chairman of the central kisiro section and one of the committee members. The chairman was very happy to see Tom and was very eager to share some of the improvements that were achieved in his section especially on the side of latrine construction. He said one of the home (second home) that is for the chairman of another section has now gotten a latrine. The chairman said he stepped up his efforts encouraging and talking to his fellow chairman about having a latrine for his second home. Even though the latrine was not roofed yet, the chairman was very happy that his fellow chairman now has a latrine. He said he will continue encouraging him so that he roofs the latrine. The committee member said that in one section of the village, three latrines had collapsed due to the heavy storm that came in. He said mainly it was those latrines that were not constructed well. After Tom used the point to emphasize the value of constructing better sanitation facilities as they can last longer and encouraged the committee member to go and talk to those residents to start new latrines. After a brief discussion they headed to the section called isamba to check on improvements made in that section regarding sanitation and hygiene improvements. When they reached the section, they realize that one latrine in one home had also collapsed but the resident had already started working on getting it fixed. There were also three other new latrines under construction and one is about to be finished and only roofing it is remaining. Tom encouraged the resident to get some materials and roof the latrine as it would also collapse if not well maintained. In one home they had started on constructing the kitchen. It was still at the roofing level but Tom and the committee members thanked the resident for taking the initiative to construct a kitchen as it’s his first in his home. From there they moved in several homes were they were discussing and encouraging residents about facilities maintenance and improvements to protect the facilities from the heavy rainfall in the village.
