Notes
Suzan went to the lower part of the village to teach the community members how to build a fuel efficient stove. When she arrived their she went to one of the member’s home where the stove was going to be built and found the members gathered and busy stamping the dirt. They happily welcomed her with songs of joy and without wasting time, Suzan joined the community and stamped the dirt together while dancing and singing on top of their voices until it got ready for building. Singing and dancing was encouraged because it made everyone active in spite of feeling bored and lazy which would delay the whole building process. Together they carried the dirt into the kitchen and began building a stove. Suzan encouraged each one to at least try and participate in any step for this would easily enable them to learn the skills for building the energy saving stove. They also kept on asking questions especially during the measurements which Suzan showed them because this was still a challenge to them. Suzan also taught the members how to perfectly cut and level the banana stems since others had just joined the group and didn’t know how to cut them. A stove was finally built which impressed the members especially the owner of the home ‘mukyala Namukose’ who was a widow and one of the elderly women in the group. She also seemed to be neglecting by her older children claiming to have no time to build and repair some of her home facilities . Some of the group members promised to assist her in repairing some of her home facilities which showed unity in the community. Suzan encouraged all the members to always keep smearing their homes and maintain their sanitation and hygiene facilities for a healthy living and then thanked them for participating in the stove building that day. The meeting came to an end with a prayer from one of the members.
