- Notes
- During a visit to kisiro, Tom and the committee members moved around the lower section of the village checking on sanitation and hygiene improvements. They saw new latrines under construction especially in the last three homes next to the swamp. Their latrines had been destroyed by rains but had already started on new ones. Tom and the committee members encouraged the residents since they are neighbors to work together to improve on the speed of digging the latrine pits. The residents agreed to work together by helping each other digging the pits.
One section of the village had three new residents who recently over in the village but two have started on there latrines and one has finished his. The chairman said they are trying as much as possible to encourage new residents to embrace sanitation and hygiene standards and have sanitation facilities in there homes. Tom appreciated the chairman and encouraged him to continue emphasizing that to new residents as it will be one way to maintain sanitation and hygiene in the village.
They also visited homes along the main road and they found 4 new latrines under construction. These were replacements for those latrines that collapsed during the rains. Tom thanked residents for taking the initiative to always replace collapsed latrines. Tom also emphasized on encouraging residents about the new methods of digging the pits especially digging circular pits and using better logs and mud.
While they were still moving, rains started and Tom had to leave for jinja.
