The pipes that had remained inside the hole were all successfully removed. This time round, there were more community members that turned up to help pull out these parts and even two Kibo workers, Jeska and Tape were present to participate in pulling out these pipes. Steven and Alex also met with the water user committee members and discussed about their committee roles and responsibilities and emphasized more about the importance of their community contributions. In general, the village has maintained their sanitation facilities but the committee led by Jeska and Tape were encouraged to continue moving home to home to encourage the village residents to keep the standards during this rain season. Due to the rains that was threatening , the Kibo staff didn’t move home to home to encourage the village on facility standards building on what the village has done with another NGO.
In total, 17 stainless pipes were removed from this broken well and it was noticed that many of these pipes were bent and had cracks on them. It’s assumed that these pipes were put wrongly or the hole isn’t straight. Also Kibo WASH staffs will continue to survey why these stainless pipes bend and why they develop cracks. This will help us to determine the right type of pipes to be bought and put into this well. The WASH staff will continue to encourage the village on facility standards and contribute money towards their borehole repair.
Next Visit: 2019-06-14 - Purpose: To continue encouraging the village on facility standards.
