Follow up on hand washing and facility constructio
While in the village, Tom and kibo fellows visited homes checking on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as facility constructions.
In one home they found a resident digging a pit of about 18 ft. Tom encouraged the resident to continue digging up to 30 ft because of the size of his home. He said even though his old latrine had collapsed, he felt he did not have to wait to be told to dig a new one now that he know the value of good sanitation and hygiene.
In other homes they found residents with new hand washing stands and Tom and the chairman encouraged them to use them for hand washing as its important for maintaining a health living. In one home they found a lady who has embraced the new methods of using the ha d washing stand. She said it was very good for her as it’s easier to maintain the jerican clean and with water.
They also encouraged other residents about maintaining the facilities especially using some cement to strengthen the facilities.
As they left the village, A resident stopped them and invited them to see his new innovation. It was a new form of hand washing facility that he constructed. Tom and the students were very impressed and thanked him for being innovative in his home especially when it come to sanitation and hygiene facilities.
Tom also encouraged him to use his knowledge to teach other residents so that they can also construct better facilities.
