Alex met with some of the water and sanitation committee members and the village local council 1 chairman and discussed about a plan that should that they need to come up with to ensure sanitation sustainability and borehole management. As WASH plans to phase out of the village, the village leaders need to step up more and remain pro active to ensure the sanitation standards of the village is maintained. Also the borehole needs to be taken good care to ensure the borehole functionality. Alex first checked on some homes to check on the facility standards and it was noticed that the dish racks were getting too old and need replacement in many of the homes. The leaders agreed together to have one day in a month to move around the village to encourage people to keep the standards and also to remind all the people during the village meetings and funerals about the importance of sanitation and having all the facilities in place in all then homes. However the village leaders requested Kibo to attend a general meeting and talk to all the village people about the sanitation sustainability and standards and call in the everyone to maintain their hygiene and sanitation standards in their homes. The borehole is still working fine and the people respond positively towards their borehole contributions. The borehole treasurer reported that the borehole account has 350,000/= and the borehole bylaws are being respected by the water users. Alex will go back for a general meeting with the village sometime in July.
